Public Works: Sewer, Highway, & Cemetery Department

The mission of the Department of Public Works is to provide high-quality, cost-effective, efficient, and safe services to protect, preserve and improve the Town's roadway infrastructure and related assets in a manner that meets and enhances the current and future social and economic needs of the community; to contribute to a healthy, safe and quality environment for the Town's citizens and visitors; and to provide environmentally sound means of solid waste and wastewater disposal.

The department currently has lock boxes available for all payments.

  • Trees:
    For trees overgrowing and in danger of falling onto utility wires, contact Unitil at 888-301-7700.
  • Roadside Tree Removal & Trimming Projects
    Contact DPW Department at 978-582-4160 for current information on UNITIL's Tree Management Plan.
    Work done on the town's designated "scenic roads" are upon approval of the Planning Board and DPW.

  • Streetlights:
    Unitil is no longer the responsible party to repair the streetlights in Lunenburg. Please call the DPW at 978-582-4160 to request repairs to a streetlight.  Please provide the street address and pole number.  You may also use the online Public Works - Request For Service form.
  • Pot Holes:
    To report a pothole or other issue with the roadway, please either fill out the online Service Request Form or call the DPW at 978-582-4160.
  • MassDOT Route 2A (Massachusetts Avenue) is maintained by the Massachusetts Highway Department, please contact them at 857-368-4636 ex 2 for any issues involving Mass. Avenue.
