3rd Alarm STRUCTURE FIRE- 36 West St.

At 9:28am the Lunenburg Fire Department received a call for an extinguished fire in a ceiling fan at 36 West St. First arriving crew found smoke and then heavy fire from the attic and requested a full 1st Alarm Assignment, quickly followed by a 2nd Alarm. This brought additional crews from Ayer, Fitchburg, Leominster, Shirley, and Townsend to the fire. A 3rd alarm was struck approximately 20 minutes later, bringing crews from Devens and Ashby to the scene. Crews initiated an aggressive interior attack and had the fire under control in a little over an hour.

There were no injuries, however the home suffered extensive damage and is uninhabitable. The American Red Cross and Salvation Army aided five displaced occupants.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Lunenburg Fire Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal; however, it is believed to be accidental and electrical in nature.

Engine companies from the Groton and Lancaster covered Lunenburg’s Station.
