Mass Conflict of Interest Summary
Summary of the Conflict of Interest Law for State Employees
G.L. c. 268A
We have taken an Oath to follow and promote these Laws. The following is a summary of Mass Conflict of Interest Laws:
(a) Bribes. Asking for and taking bribes is prohibited. (See Section 2)
A bribe is anything of value corruptly received by a state employee in exchange for the employee being influenced in his official actions. Giving, offering, receiving, or asking for a bribe is illegal.

c) Misuse of position. Using your official position to get something you are not entitled to, or to get someone else something they are not entitled to, is prohibited. Causing someone else to do these things is also prohibited. (See Sections 23(b)(2) and 26)
(d) Self-dealing and nepotism.
(e) False claims.
(f) Appearance of conflict. Acting in a manner that would make a reasonable person think you can be improperly influenced is prohibited.
Core Values
Among the above Conflict of Interest Law and Code of Ethics, we members have embraced the following Core Values:
Canon 1: Truthfulness. Members shall not make false or misleading statements (written or oral) in the course of performing their professional duties.
Canon 2: Conflict of Interest & Unwarranted Privilege. Members shall not engage in any activities in which they have, or may reasonably be considered by the public as having, a conflict of interest. No member shall use his /her official position to secure unwarranted privileges for him or herself family business associates or any other person wherein said member benefits directly or indirectly. Should member find themselves in the position of potential compromise, (as part of their BOA deliberations), the member must provide full disclosure and refrain from voting.
Canon 3: Support Mass DOR Governing Documents & Regulations. The Lunenburg BOA members shall abide by, and actively support the provisions of the Mass DOR (Department of Revenue) as described in their documents, rules, and policies.
Cannon 4: Confidential information. All information obtained in any official capacity by the member, concerning persons or their property, permitting and making only those uses of such information that are authorized by law, such as exchange of factual information concerning persons or their property, for the sale purpose of assisting in the assessment of the property legally subject to taxation.
Cannon 5: Conduct & Respect. We will conduct all duties and activities in a respectful manner that will reflect positive credit upon Ourselves, our Board Members and our Town
